The tool finds the highest quality that still meets the target size, and scales down only if needed. Images already under the limit are left unchanged.

How it works

  1. Step 1 · Add files

Drop one or more GIF files into the drop zone above.

  2. Step 2 · Confirm settings

PNG is pre-selected — only the first frame is exported as a still.

  3. Step 3 · Download

Download each PNG still, or export the batch as a ZIP.

Why this conversion

Many editors and upload forms want a single still image. PNG keeps a clean cutout when the GIF frame has transparency.

About GIF

GIF can be animated. This tool reads the first frame only — later frames are not exported.

About PNG

PNG is a still bitmap with optional transparency, accepted almost everywhere.

Good for

  • Turning a GIF sticker or meme into a still for Slack, Notion, or a CMS
  • Extracting a transparent cutout from the first GIF frame
  • Replacing animated GIF uploads where a site only wants a still

What to watch for

Animation is discarded — only the first frame is exported. This is not a GIF editor or frame splitter.

Frequently asked questions

Does animation survive GIF to PNG?

No. Only the first frame is converted to a still PNG. Later animation frames are not exported — use a dedicated GIF editor if you need every frame.

Is transparency kept on the first frame?

Yes when the first GIF frame has transparent pixels. PNG preserves that alpha channel for stickers and cutouts.

GIF vs PNG vs WebP for a still?

PNG is best for compatibility and transparency. WebP is often smaller for the same still. JPG works when you do not need transparency and the form requires JPEG.

Can I convert many GIFs at once?

Yes. Add several GIF files, export the first frame of each as PNG, then download individually or as a ZIP.
