The tool finds the highest quality that still meets the target size, and scales down only if needed. Images already under the limit are left unchanged.

How it works

  1. Step 1 · Add files

Drop GIF files into the drop zone above.

  2. Step 2 · Confirm settings

Leave WebP as output (already set); only the first frame is converted.

  3. Step 3 · Download

Download each WebP still, or export all results as a ZIP.

Why this conversion

WebP often beats PNG on size for the same still frame, and can keep transparency.

About GIF

Only the first GIF frame is drawn; this is not an animated WebP exporter.

About WebP

WebP is efficient for websites and supports transparency in most browsers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get animated WebP output?

No. You get a still WebP of the first GIF frame only. This tool does not export animated WebP or preserve GIF timing.

Does the first frame keep transparency?

Yes when the first frame has transparent pixels. WebP supports alpha in modern browsers, similar to PNG for stills.

GIF to WebP vs PNG — which is smaller?

WebP is often smaller than PNG for the same still frame at similar quality. Use PNG when a destination rejects WebP.

Can I convert many GIFs at once?

Yes. Add multiple GIF files, export each first frame as WebP, then download individually or as a ZIP.
